Did you know that in the United States, even by the most conservative estimates, more adults are living as survivors of female-female sexual abuse than are living with HIV/AIDS?
Who to believe? Findings involving survivors of female/mother perpetrated sexual abuse often contradict research involving female/mother child molesters.
What’s the reason? In contrast to statistical norms regarding sexual orientation, survivors of female-female sexual abuse report higher levels of homosexuality.
How about you? Professionals may not think to ask about sexual abuse by women during history taking, and may not take such reports seriously. Why did Rosencrans (1997) find that only 3% of survivors of mother-daughter sexual abuse disclosed their abuse to their therapists?

About the Presentation(s)/Workshops
- Provides a unique opportunity to hear survivor stories and current research on a topic for which there exists little training and information for students and professionals
- Encourages attendees to examine and challenge their own beliefs about human sexuality, family relationships, and the construct of child sexual abuse
- Provides a broad overview of the topic, including the myth of women and violence, the characteristics and motivations of the perpetrators, understanding the special concerns of survivors and the secrecy of this form of abuse, and guidelines for professionals
- Presentation(s) can be modified to meet the needs of the group and/or organization, and may be comprised of a combination of lecture material, a Q&A, a viewing of our documentary film, small group discussions and individual consultations.
- Depending upon your location, one of the women featured in the documentary may be willing to attend a Q&A at your event. All arrangements must be made through MDSA. DO NOT attempt to locate or contact the women.
Target Audience
This presentation can be customized for any group or organization interested in women’s issues, sexuality, sociology, psychology, psychotherapy, and/or childhood sexual abuse. This includes nonprofit organizations, medical centers, women's groups, social service agencies, college and graduate school classes and organizations, and childhood abuse survivor groups.
